Benjamin L.E. Bonneville papers [manuscript], 1823-1833.

Collection includes copies of letters from Bonneville: to Major General Jacob Brown, 1825 Oct. 15, describing his attendance at a celebration in honor of General Lafayette and requesting military leave; to Alexander Macomb, from Crow Country, Wind River, 1833 July 29, 19 pp., "the lost report" of Bonneville's western expedition of 1832-1835; to Lewis Cass, from Washington City, 1835 Sept. 30, 14 pp., reporting Bonneville's western expedition of 1832-35 to the Secretary of War, justifying his actions and requesting restoration of military rank. Also included in the collection is a brief history of Bonneville during his western expedition by Mrs. James B. Montgomery as told to her by Colonel Grenville O'Halle in 1870.
